Can we eat or drink in the media center?

No...Eating and drinking are prohibited.

What are your hours of operation?

Mondays - Thursdays: We are open from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. At 3:30, the SPARK program convenes in the media center.

Fridays: We are open from 7:30 AM to 3:45 PM.

We will extend our hours during project and exam times. Please feel free to speak with Mrs. Martin at least 24 hours in advance, and she will do her best to work with your study schedule.

How many books may I check out and for how long?

You may check out two books at one time for a period of TWO weeks. You may renew books until you have finished reading them unless someone puts a hold on the title.

Do you ever restrict the number of books that I can check out?

Yes. If you have a history of losing, damaging, or returning books past the original due date, we may limit the number of books you can check out to one (1). If the problem persists, we may only let you check out one (1) book if you need it for a class assignment.

Do I have to pay a fine if my books are late?

No, we do not charge late fees or other fines. It is YOUR responsibility to keep up with your book's due date.

What do we do if we want to return our books?

It's simple! Put the books or other library materials in the Book Return.

**NEVER reshelve your books.**

When may I check out, return, or renew books?

Our school is on a fixed/flex schedule. You will be coming to the library to check out books with your language arts teachers once every two weeks. You may also come before and after school and during lunch. Some teachers allow students to come early in the class period or at the end of class. That is a determination of the teacher. It is not the responsibility of the library staff to ask permission for you to leave class.

Can I access the card catalog from home?

Yes. If you have Internet access, you may use our DESTINY online catalog from home. 1) Access the SMS homepage. 2) Look under the Media Center Tab 3) Click on the Destiny tab.

What programs do you offer parents?

We also have a parent resource center in the media center. Parents may search for employment, type resumes and cover letters, and check out parenting materials.

What do I need to bring with me if I come to the library DURING class?

You will need to bring a legitimate pass from your teacher and remember to sign-in.

What happens if a library book is damaged while it is in my possession?

As books are returned to the media center we always check for damage. If you have damaged a book to the point that it cannot be circulated to other students (ex. ripped spine/torn cover/missing pages/stained pages), you will pay for the replacement item (full price). If the damage is minimal, you will be charged at a rate of $1 to $5 depending on the materials needed to repair the book). Please remember to treat your books like babies...they need your TLC!

Can I check out a book for a friend?

There are two answers for this.

First, no, you cannot check out a book for a friend under their name. We only check out books to you. You are the one held responsible.

Second, we highly recommend that you NOT check out books for your friends under your name! Although it is a nice gesture, if your friend misplaces or damages the book, you are ultimately responsible for the damages/payment.

Your account = Your Money!

Library Behavior

Respect yourself and others. Enter quietly to determine what activities are acceptable. If the library is quiet, enter and leave it that way.

What happens if I abuse school-issued technology?

You and your parents signed an Acceptable Use Policy at the beginning of the school year. We strictly adhere to the guidelines and rules of this policy. See Ms. Wilson, Mrs. Martin, or a school administrator for more clarification, if needed.
